Through this process, problems are identified as well as treatment plans are developed. However, it helps effectively in tailoring treatment plans. Accordingly, children needs, the assessment helps in changing the intervention program. 

Definition Of IQ

IQ is a total score as well as number which measures and express a person’s intelligence as well as reasoning ability. Basically, IQ tests is a measure of intelligence computed by a child’s mental age by the child’s chronological age and multiplying the result by 100.

IQ = MA/CA x 100, whereas, MA is Mental Age and CA is Chronological Age.

Who can Assess IQ?

IQ is tested by a trained, skilled and RCI registered Clinical as well as Rehabilitation Psychologists. In case, if a centre as well as an organisation do not have Psychologist, at that time, special educator, a trained teacher in disability can also help in the estimation of a child’s IQ. Generally, an assessment of IQ takes nearly 45-60 minutes.

Why IQ Assessment is required?

It is essential for an overall understanding of the child. It helps a Psychologist, Special Educator as well as Teacher to know the basic nature of the child. Similarly, It helps in planning, teaching program or training as well as to see the outcome of the child.

Purpose of IQ Assessment

As a matter of fact, training in a adopted skills & functioning can be given by offering a reward for the desired good behaviour and responses.

Alfred Binet

Alfred Binet a French psychologist, who created the first practical IQ Test in the early 1900s. After that, they got more success together with Victor Henri and Theodore Simon.

In 1950, when they published ‘the Binet-Simon test’, which focused on Verbal abilities. In fact, It was planned to identify mental delays in children. The score on the Binet-Simon scale would show the mental age of a child.

Individual Differences in Intelligence

Eventually, Every person has intelligence differences. Intelligence seems to be distributed in the population in such a way that most people make scores in the middle range while only a few people make very high or very low scores.

The scores and IQ deviations are in the chart as shown above. After that it shows, A person who scores between 0-84 comes under the category of Intellectual disability, who scores between 85-110 comes under the normal category. 

Similarly, who scores between 111-145 comes under the category of a gifted. That’s the reason, some people or children learn quickly and some slowly.
